pain relief methods for birth

♥ღ♥ I’m a bit confused with all the different pain relief methods for child birth♥ღ♥?
Which is the best to go for?
This will all depend on your pain levels, fear etc etc…. in our area you are given the choice of pain relief.
In my first pregnancy i had an epidural which numbed me from the waist down. It meant i wasn’t able to move around, it also prolonged my labour and made pushing difficult, however i didn’t feel pain.
In my second pregnancy i tried gas and air which i found dried my mouth and made regular breathing difficult, it numbed the pain a little but made my head spin. I also had a pethidine injection in the late stages which really hurt my leg (for weeks after) numbed the pain, although not completely, but i felt so dizzy the room span and i couldn’t hold my little one when she was born.
Tens machines are meant to be good, helping the muscles relax as is a water birth, but i’ve tried neither of these methods. Out of the ones i tried the epidural worked best for pain relief but wasn’t great from all other aspects, the gas and air was only mild and i found myself giving up on it and the dizzyness from the pethidine just wasn’t worth it.
If you think you can handle the pain then opt for gas and air to begin with, you can always get a different method as the labour progresses.
Chat to your midwife and see what she recommends for you, she’ll know you better than us and can give you leaflets and info to take away.
