herniated disc lumbar spine

Does a nerve block help sciatica?
I’ve had sciatica since August of ‘06. The doctor did an MRI and found I have a herniated disc in my lumbar spine with stenosis. The pain wakes me up at night and is horrendous in the mornings. It hurts all the way from my back to my foot (on the left side). The neurosurgeon recommended surgery, but I am scared-plus I have other health issues. My husband also has disc problems and recently had his 1st nerveblock. It helped at first but now it seems to have worn off. I’m sick of living on painkillers and constant pain.
Sciatica is very painful. If I were you I would try the pain block, I dont think it would hurt to try. Why has your dr. not recommended Physical Therapy? When I had my sciatica I too Physical Therapy for about six months and it helped. But I was like you I had more problems and they helped with them some. I think that the only way you are going to get any pain relief is to have surgery. I hope that things work out for you and your husband. I will keep both of you in my prayers.
