chronic leg pain following an injury and surgery, numerous injections, and pain killers and patches?
diagnosed with tinels and rsd, peroneal nerve dysfunction, after a leg injury in 05, since then had surgery on that leg, and now have chronic pain, tried every thing from pills to injections to patches, was told that my last option is exploratory surgery, to see if anything was missed in the 1st. surgery, i’m so much in pain all the time, i’m now becoming depressed over it, and my social life not to mention, my marriage is starting to suffer PLEASE HELP
I understand how you feel; I have chronic pain as well.
First of all, have you tried using a TENS unit to try to control the leg pain?
Acupuncture may also help.
Alternative medicine can sometimes fix things that traditional Western medicine can’t.
Try to explore some of these alternatives before having yet another surgery. Ask you docs if they think that trying the TENS or acupuncture or whatever else you look into can help. Make sure that they are keep informed about what you are exploring, because if it works, others may benefit from your treatment.
Pain is a constant aggressor in taking normal life away from you. I understand that only too well.
I also suggest that you take anti-depressants to try to decrease the pain as well. Many are used for pain control. Have you tired neurontin or lyrica to help decrease leg pain? They may be appropriate treatment as well. The antidepressant therapy will help you deal with the depression which may help your social life as well as your marriage. Consider some couples counseling so your wife understands how debilitating this is for you, and how much you want to keep the marriage together. Listen to her concerns too. Pain is great at isolating you to the point of loosing all social outlets and everyone else. Been there, done that.
