Is it possible for colon cancer to come back again?

My great aunt had colon cancer when she was in her 30s and go rid of it and was okay 50 years later (she’s 80) until about a month ago. She has gotten blood in her bowels and lower adominal pain. She went for a Colonoscopy last week. We still didn’t the resluts back.

So is it still possible to get colon cancer again after 50 years or could it be something else?
The thing is when she got back from the colonsocopy last week I asked her how it went and she said “It went fine, and didn’t think there was colon cancer”

But yesterday she told me she is still waiting for more resluts from 2 other doctors? And I’m really confused?

Yes it is possible for her to get colon cancer again. If this proves to be cancer and I hope it is not, it would be an entirely new cancer, not the old one coming back. And yes it could also be something else as well.

The doctor who did the colonoscopy may have a good idea if it is cancer or not. However, he or she may have removed one or more polyps, which may have cancer and in this case would not necessarily have the appearance of cancer. When cancer is not obvious on colonoscopy it is usually a good sign that it was caught early and possibly cured with polypectomy.
